Search awards – Organic and paid search PPC

Search is an exciting arena, a true battleground for the soldiers of SEO, SEM and PPC, where everyone is constantly trying to improve their rankings and climb above the competition. Just try searching ‘Best SEO Agency’, for example, to see the unending war to win business being played out. Search engines are getting ever-more sophisticated as algorithms are updated, and the changing way that consumers are using search, the evolutions in technology and the increase in voice and mobile all mean that innovation and fleet-footedness is key to be the best in search.

The rapid increase in using voice recognition personal assistants and built-in mobile companions such as Siri or Alexa means that they are quickly becoming the search mode of choice. ComScore says that by 2020, 50 per cent of all searches will be voice searches.

Winning a search award really can put you ahead of the competition and win you business. Just as consumers rely upon star rating systems to choose a product, hotel or restaurant, buyers of business products and services want to spend their money with winners – and they do. In fact, a research study showed that award winners had 37%* more sales growth than non-winners.

Whether you are looking for SEO, SEM, PPC or Paid Search awards, these schemes below will help simplify your search for the best awards in search. There are, of course, SEO and PPC award categories in many marketing awards, and I have highlighted some of the more prestigious below as well.

The Search Engine Land Awards (The Landy Awards)

Google and Bing sponsor the Search Engine Land Awards, so it goes without saying that these are credible and probably deemed the highest honours in search marketing – therefore, the most important in terms of profile-raising for you!

Search Engine Land wanted to provide a meaningful way to ‘Celebrate the Power of Search’ within the search marketing community. The Search Engine Land Awards programme, a.k.a. The Landy Awards, are dedicated to honouring the best practices of search marketing by recognising the consultants, agencies, in-house teams, search tools and platforms used by digital marketers to execute successful programmes encompassing organic, paid, local, mobile and social search tactics.

There are categories for SEO, SEM, individuals, agency and team awards. Examples include ‘Best SEM Initiative’, ‘Best SEO Initiative’ and ‘Agency of the Year’.

You will be judged by search experts, as well as representatives from Google and Bing. The Landys have a strict scoring process that is weighted objectively to avoid bias and places an emphasis on verifiable results, innovation, and best practices.

“The Search Engine Land Awards recognise the consultants, agencies, in-house teams, search tools and platforms used by digital marketers to execute successful programmes, encompassing organic, paid, local, mobile and social search tactics.”

The Search Awards

Viewed as the premier celebration of SEO, PPC and content marketing, there are four sets of these awards – divided by territory – Europe, MENA US, UK. They celebrate and reward the absolute best in SEO and PPC campaigns, software and the teams and individuals behind them.

The UK Search Awards came first and was established in 2011, then Europe, the US and now MENA followed on.

Each awards is split by sector and agency award categories. Every sector and industry is different, not just in terms of competition, but in the tactics and strategies required to stand out from the crowd and achieve your goals.

In each of the sector-based categories, the judges will be looking for the thinking and approach specific to the needs of that sector and the client’s goals.

For the agency categories, they celebrate all search-based agencies regardless of their size and shape. Categories are based on employee count and service offering.

Categories include ‘Best PPC Campaign’, ‘Best SEO Campaign’, ‘Best Search Software Tool’, sector-specific ‘Best Use of Search’ campaigns and ‘Personality of the Year’, to name but a few.

Each of the awards attract hundreds of entries from the leading search and digital agencies across the territories, and to those based elsewhere around the globe who are delivering work for the regional markets.

The organisers, Don’t Panic Events, also host the UK Biddable Media Awards, which includes 25 categories celebrating entries from the UK’s leading biddable media agencies, publishers, technology providers and professionals.

Region: International + territory specific

Deadlines: January (Biddable Media UK), February (Europe), June (MENA), July (US) September (UK)

The Drum Search Awards

Winning one of these awards would guarantee you a huge profile. The Drum is Europe’s largest marketing website, with 1.4m page views per month, making it one of the largest marketing platforms in the world.

If you win, then everyone will know about it. The unique readers are hungry for award information, which gives them insights into best practice, the best companies and the best people.

The Drum Global Search Awards celebrate the individuals and companies at the forefront of the search industry. Described by judges as ‘the one to win’, these awards provide the perfect opportunity for those entering to prove they are the best at what they do.

2019 is the first time that The Drum has combined the previous UK and US schemes to create a global awards scheme.

These awards have a fantastic range of categories to show your work, teams and tech: Best SEO B2B Campaign, PPC B2C Campaign, SEO Most Effective Use of Data, PPC Most Effective Use of Paid Search as part of a programmatic strategy and Organic Team of the Year, to highlight a few.

UK Digital Growth Awards

2019 will see the first UK Digital Growth Awards. These look to reward and celebrate exceptional agencies, tools, websites, campaigns and talent that have driven digital growth and sales across all sectors and can demonstrate real and tangible results to the bottom line.

There are 23 categories open for entry. These include SEO Campaign, PPC Campaign and Integrated Search Campaign of the Year, plus awards for agencies and teams. They are run by the same team that run the Search Awards (outlined above), so you know that even though this is their first year, they will be a reputable, ethical and credible awards scheme.

An influential and respected judging panel will judge all categories. The judging is a robust, credible and transparent two-step process, involving pre-scoring and a judging session where the panel discusses each entry in detail.

Region: UK – Deadline: April

The DADIs have been recognising excellence for the past 12 years.

These are open internationally to all agencies and brands who are producing exciting and innovative digital work. There are categories for Best Use of Organic Search and Best Use of Paid Search, plus agency, team and individual awards available.

The Performance Marketing Awards (UK and International)

The UK Performance Marketing Awards are entering its 13th year, aiming to highlight the industry’s best and brightest within the performance marketing sector. Their international sister scheme is now in its fourth year.

In the UK, there are 28 awards up for grabs. They aim to cover a wide range of activity across performance marketing, with awards including Best Paid Search, Most Efficient Agency and Best Use of Data. The awards are open to advertisers, publishers, media owners, agencies, networks, start-ups, technology providers or individuals who operate in the performance marketing sector.

For the International scheme, there are also regional awards for LATAM, APAC, MENA and Europe.

The Drum Digital Advertising Awards (USA/Europe/APAC)

Previously known as the Drum Digital Trading Awards, these are another awards scheme from The Drum – the aim here to identify the very best in adtech and programmatic.

In 2013, The Drum joined forces with the industry to address the fact that many advertisers were shying away from programmatic trading for an abundance of reasons, including not fully understanding how it all works, lack of transparency and consequently not trusting the process. Wanting to highlight the companies that were majoring on clarity and transparency, the Digital Trading Awards were born.

The programme has been running for four successful years in the UK, three in the USA, and now it’s the second year in APAC.

Judges will want to see evidence of how you performed against the overall aims and objectives that you were working with, giving a clear outline of your story and insights that will support your case, such as creativity and innovation, evidence-based results and testimonials.
